Rewilding Britain is a group that was started in 2015. Its goal is to help restore nature in Great Britain. It is a charity registered in England, Wales, and Scotland.
History
George Monbiot, a journalist and author, helped start the charity. He wrote a book called Feral about rewilding in 2013. Rewilding Britain has suggested bringing back animals like lynx and wolves, which were no longer in Britain many years ago. Some farmers disagree with these ideas.
In 2018, Prime Minister Theresa May introduced a 25-year plan to protect the environment. This plan supported Rewilding Britain by, for example, helping to bring back beavers and recognizing the important work of Knepp Wildland, an area in Britain where rewilding has been tested.
In 2020, Rewilding Britain asked that natural regeneration—letting nature grow on its own—be encouraged through a new program called the Environmental Land Management Scheme. They suggested this should be the main way to create new woodlands unless trees cannot grow naturally or would take too long to grow.
